Artist Jose Rodeiro

José Rodeiro nació en Febrero de 1955 en Ybor City, Tampa, Florida. La ascendencia materna de Rodeiro es cubano-americana. Al fin de la década de 1950, estudió dibujo y pintura con Samuello Brocatto, un pintor de Florida entrenado en la Art Student League (la Liga de Estudiantes del Arte) y en el Pratt Institute (el Instituto Pratt). En 1969, Rodeiro se graduó de la Escuela Secundaria de los Jesuitas (Jesuit High School) en Tampa, en la que desarrollaría su pasión por el aprendizaje y el estudio del arte que le acompañara durante toda su vida
Obtuvo su Máster de Bellas Artes en el Instituto Pratt de Nueva York, y su doctorado en el Colegio de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Ohio (College of Fine Arts, Ohio University). En New Jersey City University, Rodeiro es Profesor de Arte e Historia de Arte, y es el Coordinator del Departamento de Historia de Arte. Sus premios académicos incluyen el Visual Artist´s Fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts (1986-1987), la beca Fullbright Fellow (1995), y la beca Cintas Fellow (1982). Rodeiro ha recibido comisiones para realizar proyectos de arte público (murales) del Cónsul de Artes en Tampa Florida (Tampa Arts Council), y del Cónsul de Artes Estatal de Maryland en Baltimore. Rodeiro ha vivido y trabajado en España y Centro América.

Jose Rodeiro was born in February, 1955 and was raised in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida. Rodeiro’s maternal ancestry is Cuban-American. At the end of the 1950s and early 1960s, he studied drawing and painting with Samuello Brocatto; a Florida painter trained at the Art Students League and Pratt Institute. In 1969, Rodeiro graduated from Tampa’s Jesuit High School, wherein he developed a life-long passion for knowledge and creating art.
He received his M.F.A from the Pratt Institute in New York and his Ph.D. from the College of Fine Arts at Ohio University. Rodeiro is a Professor of Art and Art History and a Coordinator of Art History at New Jersey City University. His academic awards include the Visual Artist’s Fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts (1986 – 1987), a Fulbright Fellow (1995), and a Cintas Fellow (1982). Rodeiro has received major public art (mural) commissions from Tampa Arts Councils, Tampa, FL, and Maryland State Arts Council, Baltimore, MD. He has lived and worked in Spain and Central America.
